Video Game

Noun a game played by electronically manipulating images produced by a computer program

I love em, and in 2007 that love was reaffirmed, I’m 24 years old and like most of my peers i grew up with video games(my history of video game is for another blog)and i feel they’ve grown up with me. In the last few years though I’ve felt as if i was out growing games and they were being aimed at ever younger demographics and becoming formulaic. Don’t get me wrong there was plenty of fun to be had play video games, and we have sports games to fall back on but there’s been something lacking, until 2007.

The game this year that has enriched my gaming life so much is Bioshock, its attention to detail , its story , the atmosphere it created all crafted in one amazing package that says games now, in 2007, are for everyone again. Its a testament to bioshock that i now see art deco through new eyes and that it brought that whole era to life (more-so than films like once upon a time in america and untouchables ever quite managed to do) also amazing because I’m no history lover. The true brilliance of bioshock is the moral  ambiguity it has you consider as you play and the intrigue it delivers with its story. one other great thing is the impression it leaves long after your last trip to rapture (something that great films often do) and if this is to be what next gen is all about then my love for gaming is reborn.

Bioshock my Game of 2007.
